Although I'd gotten a full thirty minutes of aerobic exercise while dancing in the fall festival this afternoon, I craved a jog around the lake by the time I arrived at home after work this evening. It's an odd thing for me; I usually despise exercise as such. But I listened to my body, threw on some running shoes, and took off down the public bike path.

And for the first time, I ran a longer segment than I walked. Ouch, and woohoo!! It was a really neat experience as I passed by a snake, some ducks settling in for the evening, and various other wild critters. A symphony of crickets hummed a song while giant Lake Toho became like glass as the night fell. On another shore, two alligators bellowed; I started when an alligator about twenty feet from me jerked its head around to listen.

By the way, Fitday.com does not have alligator meat listed in its database, yet it has other random animals like rabbit. Go figure!! Mom cooked up a delicious batch of gator the other night, and I had no idea how it fit into my diet plan for the day. Probably pretty healthy.

Since I've sat at this 145-pound plateau for so long and November is only five weeks away (time flies!!), I've revised my goal. It's impossible to lose three pounds a week in a healthy way, so I'm shooting to get below 140 by November, and 135 before the new year. And that's where I'll stop.

For the past two weeks, I've been rehearsing a couple times a week for a dance festival that we put on yearly at my workplace, and today was our opening show. Talk about an ill-prepared cast; we were stepping all over each other's toes -- literally!! But praise God, overall, it went very smoothly.

I'm especially excited this year not just because I love the music and dancing, but because it counts as thirty minutes of aerobic exercise each day that I perform!! It's exercise without even trying. I've been stuck around 145 pounds for two months now. Plateaus happen. But I'm thinking that, with the added daily workout of dancing in the show, if I continue to eat correctly without increasing my caloric intake, the weight should start dropping again. Hopefully.

Today I danced in the 2:30 p.m. show, and then rehearsed again in the evening for an hour and a half. I'm hungry enough to eat a horse!! But I got a yummy meal today, so I'm going to be satisfied with that and go to bed thinking happy thoughts. :-D

sweetlucidity Ok so today's workout did NOT go well. I am sooo unbelievably sore that it's like really hard to move. I think I overdid it the past few days but I do believe I've now learned my lesson. So I'm now changing up my weekly routine to compensate for the fact that my body does in fact need to take a break every now and then.

Oh and about the 1600 calorie thing...I spoke a little quickly last night. What I'm going to do is have that be the top most I can go but still shoot for 1500. Jess and Kat have both had a range and that seems to be working for them and that way if I'm particularly hungry I can eat a little more and not feel guilty. The next thing on my agenda is to get rid of my evening decaf (even though I love it so) so that I can have more calories that way too. I'm not sure how well I'll be able to do that though. And I've also decided to stop drinking the ice tea at lunch unless I really really want it. I just get tired of drinking water all day and I like to have something with some flavor but it's not worth starving for it. Even with the coffee in the morning and night and the iced tea at lunch I still drink close to 80 ozs of water a day. So without them it's going to be more like 100. Lookout bathroom here I come again!

I have heard a lot about this vegetable soup recipe, but I was nervous to try it -- since I don't usually like anything vegetable-ish. But WOW -- I ate this last night for dinner, and it was sooooo freaking good! I'm going to be eating this all of the time, and I thought I would share with everyone else. Let me know what you think!

Ingredients
2/3 cup sliced carrot
1/2 cup diced onion
2 garlic cloves, minced
3 cups fat-free broth (beef, chicken, or vegetable)
1 1/2 cups diced green cabbage
1/2 cup green beans
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup zucchini


Preperation
1. Sauté the carrot, onion, and garlic over low heat for about 5 minutes.
2. Add everything but the zucchini, bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer, covered about 15 minutes or until beans are tender.
3. stir in zucchini and heat 3-4 minutes. Serve hot.

Makes 4 servings. ( A serving is 1 cup) I doubled the recipe so that it will last me a few days...
Per serving: 42 calories, 0 g total fat, 0 g saturated fat, 0 mg cholesterol, 63 mg sodium, 8 g total carbohydrate, 2.4 dietary fiber, 3 g protein, 41 mg calcium.

I made it to the gym! I'm so proud of myself. I laid back down at first and decided there was NO WAY I was going to get my considerable butt out of bed...but I knew if I didn't this time, then I'd skip the next time....etc etc.

I did 30 minutes cardio. That will have to do for now until I get more in shape. When I get my pilates tape, I'll do that in the evenings.

I also didn't eat before my workout b/c it was 5am and that's WAY too early to eat, but also b/c Troy said that then my workout would burn fat, instead of the food I just ate.

When I was weighed at my post surgical appt I weighed 151.something. Today on the gym's scale I weighed almost exactly 150. I'll just be checking myself on that scale alone to make sure my progress is accurately portrayed.

Started off today with my breakfast sandwich. Used ham instead of turkey bacon and ditched the cheese. 270 calories.

I went shopping last night. I am going to boost up my fiber and protein. Make sure all my carbs come from whole grains/complex sources. Drink tons of water.

We're doing it!! woo hoo!
